Terms of service

By using RecText, you agree to these terms. RecText is operated by Bendwater Labs LLC. The service is free to use. We may change these terms over time. If we do, we will update the effective date above and notify active users of material changes.

The service

RecText is a service for saving word-of-mouth recommendations by SMS. You text or submit a recommendation, we save it to your account, and you can retrieve it later by texting a category or visiting your dashboard. Your phone number is your account.

Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to use RecText.
• You are responsible for any activity associated with your phone number on RecText.
• If you change phone numbers, we may not be able to transfer your data to the new number without verification from both numbers.
• You can close your account anytime from the dashboard or by emailing us. We delete your data within 30 days of a deletion request.

SMS and consent

When you submit your phone number through rectext.co or text our toll-free number, you consent to receive transactional SMS from RecText: a welcome message, confirmations of saved recommendations, retrieval responses, and replies to your commands (HELP, SHARE, etc.). Message frequency varies based on your use of the service. Message and data rates may apply through your carrier. Reply STOP to any RecText message to unsubscribe; we will stop sending immediately. Acceptable use

You agree not to use RecText to:

• Send abusive, harassing, threatening, or illegal content.
• Save other people's personal information without their consent.
• Spam or attempt to abuse the service (excessive volume, automated submissions, etc.).
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or extract data from the service.
• Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your identity.

We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you have violated these terms.

AI parsing

RecText uses AI to parse your messages into structured fields (name, category, source person, location). The parsing is generally accurate but not perfect. We do not guarantee that recommendations will be categorized correctly or that retrieval will return every relevant result. Treat RecText output as a helpful aid, not a definitive record.

Your content

You retain ownership of the recommendations you save. By using RecText, you grant Bendwater Labs LLC a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, host, store, and process your content as necessary to operate, protect, maintain, and improve the service, and to share information as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of your content.

Intellectual property

RecText, including its software, design, and the RecText name and brand, is owned by Bendwater Labs LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the service as intended. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the service without our written permission.

Service availability

We work to keep RecText running reliably, but we do not guarantee uptime. The service depends on third-party providers (Twilio for SMS, Anthropic for parsing, Supabase for storage, Vercel for hosting). We are not responsible for outages, delays, or failures caused by these providers or by your mobile carrier.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have. Using RecText means you agree to that policy.

No warranty

RecText is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any saved recommendation will be retrievable in the future. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bendwater Labs LLC, its officers, employees, and affiliates are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of RecText. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of one hundred US dollars ($100) or the fees you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so they apply only to the extent permitted.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify Bendwater Labs LLC, its officers, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your misuse of RecText, the content you save, or your violation of these terms or the law.

Changes and termination

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of RecText at any time. We may also terminate your access if you violate these terms. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give active users reasonable notice and an opportunity to export their data.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of RecText will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
